Crit Club with Jaanika Okk
23/09/2015 @ 17:30 - 20:00
Black Hole Club member Jaanika Okk recently curated and co-produced PIND: Estonian art in Birmingham.
PIND was an international art project, which took place this summer in Digbeth at Centrala Gallery, focussing on site specific art and collaboration. PIND was curated by Jaanika Okk and co-produced by her and Polish Expats Association.
Estonian artists created a visual and conceptual comment to the constantly growing supermarket spaces and consumerism in Estonia. The exhibition presented three artists from Tallinn, Estonia who share common background of street art: Anton Koovit, Carl-Robert Kagge and Uku Sepsivart. PIND (surface or a space in Estonian) represented the space in Birmingham, which Estonian artists occupied during two month period.
PIND was the first project which Jaanika curated in Birmingham and she would love some critical feedback to it.
Jaanika Okk is a cultural producer, who works between artists, finances and project production. Her background as a fine artist (printmaker) has helped her to understand artists, their desires and needs. Jaanika is originally from Estonia, but moved to Birmingham in autumn 2011 after her studies in Tallinn, Canterbury and London. In 2012 Jaanika was awarded with Master of Arts in Arts and Project Management by the Birmingham City University and in September 2014 she became full time freelancer.
